Dental Crown
A dental crown is a cap that covers a tooth to restore its shape, size, and strength. Dentists use crowns when a tooth has been damaged, decayed, or weakened. At THP Dental, our team provides dental crowns at our Central and Repulse Bay clinics using a range of materials suited to each patient’s needs.
When a Dental Crown May Be Needed
A dentist may recommend a crown to:
- Restore a tooth with a large filling or significant decay
- Protect a tooth after root canal treatment
- Repair a cracked or fractured tooth
- Cover a dental implant
- Improve the appearance of a discoloured or misshapen tooth
Same-Day Crowns with Digital Technology
For suitable cases, THP Dental offers same-day crowns using digital scanning and on-site milling technology. Our team designs and fabricates the crown within a single visit, so there’s no need for a temporary crown while a permanent one is made in an external laboratory. Instead of a traditional impression, we take a digital scan of the tooth. The crown is then milled on-site and fitted the same day.
Not every case suits a same-day crown, however. Our dentists assess each patient during a consultation to determine the most appropriate option.
What to Expect
A traditional crown typically involves several steps: preparing the tooth, taking an impression or digital scan, fitting a temporary crown, and returning for a second visit once the permanent crown is ready. With a same-day crown, though, preparation, design, and fitting all happen in one appointment.
